HIGATE BRIDGE_SH 1_Silverdale_NZ

GPIL is proud to have been involved with various geosynthetic materials supplied to this project. Our Paraweb geostrap reinforcement and GFRP pin positive connection system to the Stone Strong retaining MSE bank seat abutment foundation is a first for Waka Kotahi NZTA and finally a break from the use of steel straps for MSE bank seat reinforcement. No corrosion risk means longer life and a more sustainable and lower-carbon MSE structure.

HEB Construction have now built several Stone Strong bridge abutments and appreciates the speed of constructability and ability to use a normal compaction plant behind the large and stable Stone Strong blocks. Well done HEB and to the project designers for using innovative but proven MSE systems.

Just like building a giant Meccano set, but with no missing pieces, this steel superstructure is being assembled over the top of State Highway 1. At almost 100m long and 19m wide, this new three-span bridge will provide an important connection from John Fair Drive in #Milldale to Highgate Business Park and Silverdale.

It’s been a massive effort from the team and construction partners, pushing hard to complete the assembly of the superstructure before Christmas. Well done to everyone involved!
